In 1190, the sisters at Eibingen Abbey believe their ward Odilia is an incarnation of Hildegard von Bingen. When her prophetic visions turn from ecstasy to monstrosity, her faith is violently shaken.

When Adalgard is sent to the abbey from nearby Rüdesheim as penance, Odilia is captivated by her defiance within their order—but Odilia knows nothing of the secular world, and her growing desire for another woman threatens to upend her tenets of holiness.
