I think it& #39;s important to tell afab ppl their autism can be misdiagnosed as bpd/bipolar bc of misogyny and all, but it REALLY needs to be more nuanced. You can be autistic and have other stuff going on. Not everything can be explained with autism even if it& #39;s a relief.

I self-dx as bpd when I was a teen, then got officially diagnosed. After I found out about my autism, I thought it "replaced" it, that I and my psychatrist were mistaken, mainly because of 2 things.
1)Those "boys get the autistic diag while girls get the bpd diag" posts
2)The devilization of bpd. Of course when I thought it was something else, I jumped on the occasion to say I was mistaken. Yeah, being autistic is hard and ppl will infantilize you etc... but my experience with the gaze of others is still better if I don& #39;t talk about bpd.
+ Talking about bpd as a teen made me vulnerable, making bad people aware they could abuse me pretty easily (and they did).
But recently enough, I& #39;ve understood that I do have bpd. And I& #39;m autistic. And I have adhd. And knowing that actually made me feel better.
The biggest exemple I can give are the bpd "modes". I learned of its existence extremely recently, and it made so much sense, I finally had an answer to a lot of things I didn& #39;t get in myself. (While for years I thought I was somehow faking having DID despite knowing it wasn& #39;t)
Also the fact that bpd can cause psychotic episodes! I didn& #39;t know and I was super scared because I had no idea where it came from.
I think my point is pretty clear. Yes it& #39;s important to know how often you can get misdiagnosed by pros (it happens ALL the time)
but it& #39;s also good to know you don& #39;t have to be limited to either autism OR bpd (or smth else). Heck, it& #39;s common knowledge that disabilities come as a package.
As an addendum to this thread: Mad pride all the way, abolish psychatry, give more importance and voice to pair-diag and pair-help.
