On #WorldEarthDay we share we with you the story of a #mother #leopard who recently visited #Powai's NITIE campus in #Mumbai few days ago along with young cubs. It stayed there for a week before moving out safely on its own along with the young ones.

(A THREAD)
A leopard cub was spotted by workers in a defunct godown at the NITIE campus. Soon after that, @MahaForest was alerted that suspecting that cub was abandoned. Immediately responding teams from Mumbai Territorial & SGNP swung in action along with team of volunteers & researchers
After reaching the spot we surveyed area, evaluated the situation, cordoned off the area where the cub was, checked on the young cub without touching or disturbing it and decided to monitor for a night from afar distance.
A team of researchers & volunteers installed multiple camera traps (device used to monitor animal movement) at strategic locations to understand if the mother returns.
Early morning next day revealed action in evening itself ruling out that cub was abandoned. The mother leopard visited young one, checked on & left again & got another cub, stayed there with them.
She then daily moved mostly to hunt, quench her thirst, came back & stayed with both cubs for a week.

A couple of days ago monitoring teams found that she moved out with both her cubs & then did not return. We have almost monitored the place for around 48 hours & still on.

With almost no interference the animal was allowed to naturally take its own decisions & story says the rest.
This was only possible due to every single individual and organization involved starting with NITIE authorities & staff who were totally in cooperation and had faith on our idea.

RFO Kank Sir & his amazing team along with SGNP team.
