Whenever a cop goes to prison, whenever we organize to send cops to prison, we suggest that there is a utility and need for prisons. Sending cops to prison is reform.
We said abolish the police. That means unemploy them. That means no cops go to jail because no cops exist.
One cop going to prison does not change the predatory system of policing. We know that indictments offer those directly impacted relief. But, the amount of mobilization that went into Chauvin‘s indictment, needs to go into abolition work to offer families sustainable relief.
Today, Chauvin is in prison. But, Nobody is safer bc Chauvin is in there. Families who are no longer susceptible to police terror by Chauvin, are susceptible to police terror by 50 million other cops who are committed to the same anti-Black violence Chauvin was committed to.
