The cuts to ODA announced by @FCDOGovUK are a significant setback, with up to 40% cuts in global health including SRHR since 2019. This will have a devastating long-lasting impact for girls & women around the world and derail years of progress on gender equality.1/4
We oppose the Government’s intention to cut the ODA budget from 0.7% to 0.5% of GNI. As the @FCDOGovUK considers the future of the UK ODA budget, both the amount and priorities for policy and programming, it is critical that SRHR remains a key priority. 2/4
Expanding access to sexual and reproductive healthcare is one of the smartest investments countries can make & is essential to keeping girls in school & advancing gender equality. Giving women & girls the ability to choose when, if & how many children they have saves lives. 3/4
The UK has been a long standing global champion of SRHR and given reproductive choice to millions of women and girls in some of the world’s poorest communities. Now is not the time for the @FCDOGovUK to renege on the commitments they have made to the poorest women and girls. 4/4
