In the House Oversight Committee, a mom (who is clearly frustrated and advocating for her daughter) just repeatedly said that antigen COVID-19 tests *may cause cancer*.

There's absolutely no evidence of that.

The assertion was not refuted by any lawmakers on the committee
Parents are testifying before the committee to express frustration about the state's mandatory testing for youth athletics.

Youth athletics has been one of the top sources of COVID-19 spread in the state
Again, this is the House Oversight Committee. This same committee (under a different lawmaker as chairman) allowed Rudy Giuliani and others to testify in the fall, where they spread clearly false information that was also largely unrefuted.
Committee now hearing from student-athlete who says he tested negative 9 times after contact tracing warranted it.

He gives inaccurate description of CDC's definition of a close contact ( https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/community/schools-childcare/student-becomes-sick-diagnosis-flowchart.html)

It's not his fault, he's a student. But not refuted by lawmakers
Student-athlete says he still plans to wrestle in college, despite clear frustrations around his inability to compete in a crucial tournament.
Rep. David LeGrand, D-Grand Rapids, notes "we are in the middle of a pandemic" and the rules are constantly changing.

LeGrand: We have to have a societal response to this...this disease has got a really nasty feature that you can be giving it to people before you're symptomatic
LeGrand: "If we're going to try and save lives, we do have to try and have rules...and we have to have an attempt to have them informed by science"

To student: "We're always going to have examples for whom (these rules) really stunk. And for you, they stunk, and I'm sorry."
LaGrand: This is not a grand conspiracy to end wrestling in Michigan. This is an effort to save lives.
Chairman Johnson counters, said state orders led at least to one case of students choosing virtual class over in-person class. Says could harm education.

Also: "I think we also have a lot of lazy, fat people." Says state policies discourage people from being active. (What?)
Johnson: "We've locked them in their home, and told them don't go out, don't be active."

I'm unaware of any order that expressly told high school students to not leave their homes
LaGrand thanks Johnson for having a nuanced, respectful conversation about policy.

Says there are tensions, and you may land at a different spot than I may land, but this is democracy.
