apropos of nothing* (*everything) i just want to say: the buzzfeed news union doesn& #39;t even have a contract yet, and we already a saved a number jobs by securing a work-sharing agreement last summer and avoiding deep layoffs in our unit
in time between recognition and signing a contract, management is also bound by what& #39;s called status quo, which means they cannot change ANY working conditions without negotiating with the union — an incredible protection we just don& #39;t talk about enough
our members have secured better pay and raises thanks to salary transparency among our members, and buzzfeed recently changed its policy to pay out PTO when you leave the company, something they said was a direct result of listening to employee concerns
every (UNTRUE) argument about why employees shouldn& #39;t unionize (it will negatively affect culture, could put your job at risk, etc.) is *actually* true about working without a union, when you can be fired at any time, for any reason, with no recourse
bosses are scared. a record number of journalists have unionized during the pandemic, and the newsguild alone has added more than a thousand new members in recent months https://www.axios.com/journalists-unionize-digital-media-5f38770c-e398-4a18-8e6a-7f8374caaa80.html">https://www.axios.com/journalis...
