The details and graphics only provide a partial view of COVID-19's impact, especially on health care in this province.

For reasons that were never provided, the province hid the fact that they were reporting only active/contagious hospitalizations for the first nine months.
Active & contagious hospitalizations do require more in the way of PPE & safety protocols to prevent further spread of COVID-19.

That said, those COVID-19 cases that were hospitalized beyond Day 10 require a bed and care.

A calendar function doesn't discharge someone.
More than a year into the pandemic and the province is still unable to provide a full history of daily COVID-19 hospitalization counts.

I ask once or twice a month. The response is always that a team is working on it.
We haven't seen much of Lanette Siragusa after she finally admitted (in late Dec.) that the daily Hospitalizations and ICU numbers reported by the province were only active/contagious cases.

A partial view with a label claiming that it was a complete picture.
There is no medical, scientific or public health justification for downplaying the number of COVID-19 cases in hospital.

Protecting health care and the elderly were the primary reasons that Manitobans went into lockdown.
With the discrepancy finally revealed, & actual total hospitalizations now reported on the dashboard, the difference has been astounding.

Most days it's a 20-50% difference — 52% yesterday.

That's a lot of active under-reporting on one of the most important measures available
The design decisions and emphasis on the revised COVID-19 dashboard suggest that's an officially acceptable blindspot.
Reporting the partial hospitalizations as though it was the complete tally allowed the province to garner (engage?) support for the premature reopening campaign last spring.

Kick CERB to the curb and a few million to play football in the city...
Similarly, in the lead up to and thick of the Second Wave, we had no idea how bad things were. We still don't.

Perhaps if we had, Dr. Roussin & his bosses might not have changed the Thanksgiving 10 People Total rule to Household plus 10 (for large family equity reasons???).
