Beat 13 Sentinels.
That's a video game. Yeah.
That's a video game. Yeah.
The story never stops being overwhelmingly in your face about information until the very end where it (80%) makes enough sense to go "damn shit huh, that was fucking wild. nice ride"
Since you get enough sleep ways to interact with narrative through event/file viewer, adventure game section, and the battle mode itself(the ppl who say that there isn't narrative significance to this don't read), it's a 40 hours well spent absorbing all this.
Kind of sucks that anyway you can talk about this game in order to convince someone to play ruins some amount of surprise given any part of this game (they are all good and fuck with you), so I'll just say
check this game out if you want to relive playing 999 for the 1st time.

The battle/RTS mode of this game is hit or miss for a lot of vanillaware ppl, but no joke it's the best part about this game for me as someone who wanted super bombastic robot SRPG gameplay without playing SRW.
Unit depth isn't all there vs other games in RTS+SRPG, but it's made up for unit limits for special objectives (you get more lore for clears). Unloading with 6 units is significantly more easy vs going with 3/4 units (who are all fairly complete that they can make up for less)
There's a postgame wave mode that's just randomized stages (much like every other vanillaware title iirc) and I think that's where the brain overload mechanic shines(it encourages to play w/ less units) vs in regular playthrough.
shame, but what's here is worth trying imo

Also, FUCK do I wish any physical copy of this game came with an OST of some kind because this game is legit Basiscape+Sakimoto's best work that like is almost unrecognizable from any of the tracks they've done the past decade
unless you played sokyugurentai.

Non-spoiler track because this comes out of the post game battle section (that apparently has a few exclusive tracks lol).
OST rules, lots of good shit to listen to outside the game, 100% is real good in context to the game

If you were busy playing/catching up with FF7R, I invite anyone to come check out the premiere japanese video game of 2020:
13 Sentinels Aegis Rim for the PlayStation 4

Last thing I'll say:
This game is very devoid of mecha references (it's ok because the mechanical illustration/design/animation are very very good), but namedropping a Getter Robo character as a company is very cute and characteristics of said reference is still relevant to plot

There's also macross reference in here I forgot.
There's no need for context, you'll get it when it happens.
