whenever something horrific happens to a Black girl or woman, we run to that Malcolm X quote. i get it. i used to, too. but i now know that words are spells, so when you speak, you’re casting. speak what you WANT to see. silence what you don’t.

i’m not saying don’t express your rage. absolutely do. start with your body. feel it. deep. cry. your tears are holy. speak in tongues. weep. wail. cuss. walk. sing. dance. sh*t...BLINK! set your intention. process. but, for the love of all things holy, stop quoting that quote.
