THREAD: Seven creative principles in five words or less.

From Ship 30 for 30 Office Hours with @jackbutcher

Make noise, listen for signal.

A simple framework for prolific output:

• Share 1,000 ideas, find 100 that resonate
• Share 100 ideas, find 10 that resonate
• Share 10 ideas, find 3 that resonate

Then, find a way to say those same 3 ideas in 1000 different ways.
Consistency is the great differentiator.

What does consistency breed?

Credibility → Talk about something long enough and you become a reputable voice.

Competence → No one has 50 shitty versions of anything. They either have 10 shitty versions and quit or they figure it out.
Constraints unlock creativity.

The fewer choices you have to make, the better your content.

The goal is to make one decision that eliminates 1000 decisions.

• Time
• Topic
• Length
• Medium
• Platform

Creating scales credibility.

@jamesclear writes for many reasons:

• Write for yourself
• Write to learn more
• Write to get feedback
• Write to build a business
• Write to clarify your thoughts

But most importantly, writing is leadership at scale. https://twitter.com/dickiebush/status/1366526588226064385?s=20
Be the bridge.

At any moment there are two groups of people: those you can learn from and those you can teach.

A simple formula:

• Learn new things from those ahead of you

• Teach it to people on the same journey as you, but a few months behind. https://twitter.com/dickiebush/status/1360363822574428160?s=20
Less ego, more data.

The root of early writers' struggles: ego.

Assumption-driven writing leads to slow, painful growth.

Data-driven writing leads to airtight feedback loops and rapid growth.

For more, here's an Atomic Essay on the subject:
Done is better than perfect.

No piece of writing is ever finished.

But the internet rewards B+ content with A+ consistency.

Slaving away over the last 1% has a massive marginal cost.

Less overthinking, more shipping. https://twitter.com/dickiebush/status/1351908771082207238?s=20
In summary:

• Be the bridge.
• Less ego, more data.
• Creating scales credibility.
• Done is better than perfect.
• Make noise, listen for signal.
• Constraints unlock creativity.
• Consistency is the great differentiator.
