A year in, 1 in 4 people in rich countries like the US have gotten a COVID vaccine.

In poorer countries? Just 1 in 500.

I’m repping @OxfamAmerica to call for a #PeoplesVaccine at @Pfizer’s annual shareholder meeting. #AskTheCEO:
THREAD 1/
A quick rundown: Taxpayers like you & me invested billions in the #COVID19 vaccines, eg creating a market for @Pfizer.

Scientists then collaborated to bring the world vaccines in record time.

Covid vaccines shouldn't 'belong' to any one company, they belong to all of us. 2/
. @Pfizer and @BioNTech_Group are in a position to save millions of lives and end the pandemic by making their vaccine a public good.
@Oxfam 's new research shows Pfizer has only allocated around 15% of its vaccine to poorer countries. 3/
What’s more, @Pfizer and others are preventing widespread and scaled-up supply of the vaccine by not supporting for the WHO’s Coronavirus Technology Access Pool (C-TAP) and proposed mRNA technology transfer hub. #JoinCTAP 4/
We’re living in a moment of great historical significance, which as @AmbassadorTai rightly said, demands sacrifice.

So, here is my question to @Pfizer CEO today at the company's virtual shareholder meeting:

5/
Under what circumstances would @Pfizer #JoinCTAP & contribute to the @WHO s mRNA tech transfer hub to stimulate additional qualified manufacturers around the world to innovate - free of intellectual property constraints- & produce many more, low-cost vaccines for us all? 6/
We’re all in this together. Let’s show it.

Stay tuned to see how @Pfizer responds.

THIS JUST IN: @Pfizer CEO did NOT commit to join @WHO s C-TAP, defending IP protections & focusing on expanding its own production not tech transfer. 8/
