What an admission in this report: "Being part of the EU was not as significant a barrier to supporting British producers as was frequently implied. For many yrs, the Govt simply did not make enough effort to support greater public sector market access for domestic suppliers." https://twitter.com/CommonsEFRA/status/1384643289551417347
Remembering meetings I had with @DefraGovUK and @TheAHDB trying to get their support for @LoveBritishFood's activities. I was treated like a sinner for promoting British!
An @TheAHDB director told me he feared he "would go to prison if he promoted British"! And there was always a team of lawyers to extract the word 'British' from all food promotion documentation.
So for me, this admission by @CommonsEFRA, is cathartic...but also makes me cross. @LoveBritishFood needn't have been the lone voice it was for years. So much more could have been achieved and now we are having to play catch up.
