Stephen Lawrence Day is to remind us of the stark inequalities black ppl can face even in the worst things imaginable. It& #39;s not about a murdered boy.

So in a way the Lee Rigby trend is a good reminder why we have SLD...

1.The police didn& #39;t refuse to look for Rigby& #39;s killers-
- because they knew their dad.
2. The police weren& #39;t instructed to smear Rigby& #39;s family.
3. The convictions weren& #39;t for less than 50% of the attackers, the others remaining free.
4. Rigby& #39;s murderers can& #39;t be out in less than 14 years.
5. He wasn& #39;t falsely accused of various-
"reasons" why he was attacked (drugs, gangs etc).
6. Rigby& #39;s family didn& #39;t have to self fund a court case.
7. Police weren& #39;t fined & disciplined due to slander and mishandling. Or investigated for bribes & involvement in murder of a private investigator linked with the case.
We have a day to remember fallen soldiers and the risks they take for us.

I mean no disresepct to the family of Lee Rigby (RIP) who have asked people not to use his name to distract from SLD. Those wilfully dimissing these 8 facts though, do mean disrespect to Stephen& #39;s family.
It& #39;s not a day about a murdered man, it& #39;s about the fact there is a twisted section of our society who think he gets too much attention when still, STILL his case hasn& #39;t had enough.
and a final note- that Stephen Lawrence Day& #39;s main focus is on inspiring all young people to be what they want to be and to tell them they can encourage societal change. They don& #39;t talk about black vs white, murder or what hasn& #39;t been done - the day& #39;s focus is the future.
Nevertheless I stand by what I say about the day being there because of the injustice, which is part of the campaign& #39;s message if not the entire focus of the day.
