This is hard to bear. 17 years after the restraint-related deaths of two children, at least a decade of unlawful restraint (physical and emotional abuse), countless broken bones, children unable to breathe and vomiting during restraint, & adults in positions of power not 1/4
seeing children's suffering and not standing up for them. Then, after all this time, an Independent Restraint Review Panel is to be established - following recommendation by @charlie_taylor6 (whose review was set up after our legal challenge to pain-inducing restraint). But 2/4
the government already knows who it wants to appoint as the so-called independent chair. & none of the Panel members are to be drawn from children's rights or advocacy organisations, and the framing yet again is about the behaviour management of children rather than cultural 3/4
change and the knowledge, skills and support of adults. Knowing how to use force on children is the expertise government is looking for.

Yet more confirmation of the vacuousness that is 'learning the lessons' when it comes to children in custody. Shameful and cowardly. 4/4
