On Wednesday the Indian government allowed mass crowds (over 650,000) to celebrate the Hindu Kumbh Mela festival by bathing in the holy waters of the Ganges.

This is one day of the week long festival, and went ahead despite India experiencing record levels of Covid infections.

At a time when India is suffering from serious shortages of oxygen and hospital beds.

Wednesday alone has been labelled a super-spreader event as hundreds of attendees tested positive for Covid on the day.

Meanwhile, the Indian government is accusing protesting farmers of spreading Covid and are demanding they end their protests.

The farmers have been protesting against 3 new farming laws that they say will end financial protections and will leave them vulnerable to being run out of business by the bigger industry chains.

Since November 2020, over 500 farmers have died from the harsh conditions they have been living in, from suicides and being killed on the roads.

The Modi government are declaring them anti-nationalists.

While hundreds of thousands attend the state endorsed festivals, the farmers are subjected to harsh, discriminatory treatment by the Modi government.

Yet another example of minorities being persecuted by dictator states while the international community refuses to help.
