So i've spent $100K on @ToppsDigital @MLB packs on the @WAX_io secondary market.

My thoughts so far in a twitter thread. Pros + Cons of the product, experience etc.

For full disclosure, I am an advisor for @WAX_io, however was not gifted any @ToppsDigital @MLB packs!

So let's begin at the primary sale held 2 days ago (I Think?), I logged in at launch time, the website and @WAX_io itself seemed to go down / be unresponsive.
I sent numerous credit card transactions, was charged for around 10 of them, however I believe only 3 got through. #NFTs

I've since been refunded for the other transactions, this left me with a problem, a pack addiction and not enough packs. There are 7 different packs on @Topps' site, found here: https://toppsmlb.com/unpack .

The premium are the value packs, 45 cards, following wax trends for packs..

I decided to swap 40 @EthereumNetw to @WAX_io to grab some premium packs on the secondary, the site and filter i used is:

Cheapest premium on the secondary is currently $350 (3.5x base cost?) for 45 cards, and a chance at some legends / rarer cards #NFTs

Upon opening a pack you get a quick 2 second opening video followed by the 'card' backs and then once they load in (Pic 1). the cards themselves (Pic 2).
As you can see, unlike @nbatopshot, the @Topps #NFTs are mainly still images (Pic 3), however rarer versions have animations.

The rarer animated #NFTs seem to be stored as video files, and vary from subtle animations of borders, to more interesting animations like this one included. So they are making some use out of the digital format, rather than just taking photos of traditional @MLB cards :D

The drop rates described on the packs seem to be accurate, i've opened A LOT of packs and so far only received 2 Legendary Exclusive #NFTs, I actually prefer some of the Epic animations, I've not hit a 1/1 Legendary though. Each premium seems to guarantee 2x Epic Exclusive cards!

Now the fun bit, just like @nbatopshot and the @NBA, I have never seen a game of @MLB, so i'm opening these packs without any attachment, I heard Mike Trout is pretty good?! #1 Mike Trout legendary just sold for $84K.. That's all i have to go by.

So i've got the cards, now what?! One thing i do like about the @ToppsDigital experience so far is the crafting aspect, Similar to the challenge mechanic in @nbatopshot, however you burn common cards to unlock more... PACKS. I'm not sure how time limited these packs are @WAX_io?

The packs seem to offer a unique promo set, this first week is a 1952 redux? I presume this is players from that era? Or judging by the quality of the photos used, it's actually the @Topps card style from that era :D

So unlike @opensea's #ETH monopoly and the @nbatopshot internal in-house market, there are a number of places to list your Cards, most of which are linked directly on the site. The main link sends you to @AtomicHub here: https://wax.atomichub.io/market?collection_name=mlb.topps.

Do these sites share listings?

So far the secondary market is pretty much dominated by pack sales, but the card mint's are somewhat limited and may create demand in the future, see early days of @nbatopshot for equivalent comparison, however this requires about 100 things to go right for the product :D #NFTs

Overall it's been fun to open a large number of licensed packs again, something that had been impossible with @nbatopshot this year, and the relative low cost of entry is certainly enticing, Check out my collection so far:

However...

The user experience on @WAX_io, unlike @nbatopshot, whilst being much cheaper than #ETH (No real gas charges etc), is a less polished one. The cloud wallet is a nice way to be able to log in on mobile easily, though i've not done the digging re. centralisation of @WAX_io.
