This #EarthDay , we’re celebrating the incredible biodiversity of #CreswellCrags, and want to showcase some of the fauna and flora, both past and present! 🌿🌎 From our iconic mute swans to water voles, herons, and even hyaenas, mammoths and dire wolves?! 👀🦣
For the last 8 years, our Ranger and volunteers have been undertaking butterfly counts for the Butterfly Conservation ( @savebutterflies), a charity devoted to saving butterflies and moths! 🦋 Some of our rare finds are the White Letter Hairstreak and the Dingy Skipper! #EarthDay
Throughout each season, #CreswellCrags comes alive with an array of wildlife; from bluebells in spring to kingfishers in summer! We adore seeing visitors snap photos and develop an active interest in both conservation and preservation of the nature on our site 🌸 #EarthDay2021
We've even got a few rare finds, just like our butterflies mentioned previously! Interested in a Bat Tour in October? Or how about spotting herons on your next walk? 👀 It's not just fauna, what about this interesting specimen? Can you tell us what this fellow is? #EarthDay
We also regularly look far into the past, to help inform our research and fascinate visitors with our finds! We've had Ice Age hippos, cave bears, giant deer and even woolly rhinos! 😱 Who knew these animals that now live so far away once lived near Worksop! 😉 #EarthDay2021
