Elliot Temple has a habit of demonizing people. He makes the most damning judgements he can make.
Elliot Temple has a habit of demonizing people. He makes the most damning judgements he can make.
/ For someone who supposedly agrees with a philosophy that taught you that should make the most positive interpretation you possibly can, he is quite damning.
/ Note that Lulie also didn't mention William Godwin (too old, too obscure), The Natural Child Project (I know, unfortunate name), Sarah Dodd and the Unschooling movement. And I know she is familiar with most of them.
/ Maybe Lulie didn't feel that any of them, ET included, discussed non-coercive parenting seriously.
/ Although ET has treated Lulie badly under the veil of "critical rationalism". He treated the founder of TCS, Sarah Fitz-Claridge, badly. He disrespected the original TCS list's moderation rules, he made sock puppets to be able to post. The works.
/ So he should not surprised that the older TCS community does not want to advertise his work or existence.
/ For ET, nobody is ever "good enough". He does this on the veil that this is what fallibilism is about. He demands that you openly expose your flaws and take the criticism or you are not serious about learning.
/ Let me make this clearer: Unless you are willing to be downright humiliated by Elliot Temple, he will not accept you in his community. People are bullied in FI and it's supposed to be treated as "critical rationalism". It's the most coercive online school you can step into.
/ If you get immersed in the Fallible Ideas community, you'll get to the point that if you feel hurt, you believe it's your own fault. This shit is not cool, but try and reach out to ET and change him. He is not open to it.
/ So, I'm not surprised TCS kids who grew up to be clever kids, like Lulie, had enough.
/ It's a shame because Elliot Temple did indeed write work of immense value to the evolution of philosophy. But he refuses to develop people skills and social skills.
/ ET also refuses to acknowledge that deviant subcultures often have the problem of becoming like cults and that work has to be done to prevent or fix that. [End of thread]
