why dark isn't a villain: a much needed thread
first, let's talk about how dark came to be. a fusion of two siblings (damien and celine) and an entity that lives in markiplier manor. are any of them to blame? yes and no. to understand if the origins can be pinned down as "villainous". first- let's start with celine.
CELINE

what are celines intentions? that's the question we have to ask for each character to determine the answer to whether or not dark is a villain. celine is siblings with damien, and was not originally at the party that caused this event. so why did she come? ...
her brother- damien. she came to protect her brother. as a seer, it is up to assumption that she could sense a disturbance at the party- why else would she randomly come? she wanted to protect her brother. this is further proved during DAMIEN.
CELINE, PART II

speaking of which, let's talk about her protective nature in DAMIEN. she comes off with more aggressive characteristics, but in DAMIEN we see something different. we see her crack. she failed her job. she couldn't protect him. this breakdown near the end shows
what her true intentions were. this is why she did what she did during whi killed markiplier. to keep damien alive and unknowing of the monster that actor mark wanted him to become. moving onto damien...
DAMIEN

now for the next soul- damien. what where his intentions? he had none. he couldn't choose what he wanted- this is the main reason why his character is so tragic. "life is ours to choose" he commonly says, yet he couldn't choose his whole life. how he acted in the void
can be interpreted either way, depending on the person, however i truly believe he wanted to protect the viewer with this choice. another factor we have to consider is damien's oblivion to the actual situation. for this, we yet again can refer to DAMIEN.
DAMIEN, PART II

it is blatantly obvious that damien has no idea of what happened at the party. he has been under celines protection, which is borderline damaging. whether or not her intentions are good enough to excuse this are a completely separate debate. he was used as a pawn
in a plan, without even knowing it. however, near the end, we see a clear arc, much like celines. he makes a choice. he chooses to become dark. why? to give celine a place to rest. he wanted her to let him learn and take over her privilege. maybe not to his preference- but to
the main intent of helping celine. he doesn't know the full stark consequences of his actions he's just trying to do what's right.
THE ENTITY

this paragraph is going to be a little shorter because it doesn't really need to be touched on in great depth- but the entity is the main driving force around the "corruptness" of dark. it's up for debate whether the main magical force that created dark is the
entity or celine, however it's certain that the entity doesn't seem to dominate the vessel as a whole, once again a red herring that actor mark is placjng- trying to make us believe that dark is the villain.
DARK'S BEHAVIOR

finally, let's talk about dark themselves. dark is seen to be manipulative and cold, nothing welcoming or nice about him. however, can you name ONE direct incident that darkiplier has caused? no. he simply talks to the viewer, trying to lead us away from actor
mark. are his methods always the most clear? no, and it's very clever that they aren't. they are still playing a part in actor's story, so they use their collective wits to first into the story while still protesting to the ideology behind it. but, is this all dark is?
DARK BEHAVIOR, PART II (EXTRA)

in ahwm, he tells us to find codes to discover the "truth". however, after finding these codes, we are led to the bloopers, which seems just like a fun easter egg, right? nope, once again shows darkiplier thinking outside the box. he's showing us
it's a story. a work of fiction by actor mark. that was have both been participating. the most key thing i would like to point out is the beginning, dark getting ready to see us. he acts, normal, trying to play this character we love so much. he seems, goofy, and humane.
this shows that famine and celine are still in there- they are still playing along, but in the shadows rebelling. so, with all that said, is darkiplier a hero?
CONCLUSION

overall, darkiplier is NOT a villain, however has not shown definite characteristics of being a hero. more if an anti-hero, if you will. working on their own terms. but to call dark at surface level a villain would be incorrect and if you think about darks character
even slightly differently after this thread its served it's purpose- thanks for reading!
TL;DR

im a darkiplier apologist and i said so.
