There are a lot of stereotypes and misconceptions about what #DomesticAbuse is and who it can affect.

Domestic abuse only happens to women.
Anyone can be affected, anywhere and at any time.

#DomesticAbuse is just physical.
Domestic abuse is also when someone purposefully controls, manipulates or threatens another person.

#DomesticAbuse doesn't happen in my area.
1 in 4 women and 1 in 6 men experience some form of domestic abuse in their lifetime.

Why don't they just leave.
We need to stop blaming survivors for staying and ask why the abuser doesn't stop being abusive. Fear, threats of violence, shame, finances and isolation are all reasons people stay, plus many more don't realise their relationship is abusive.
