This is not just an appropriate use of force, it is an essential one.

I understand the cynicism for any time a Police Officer fires their weapon, but we give them weapons for situations exactly like this.

This is why we have Police.
This young Police Officer was responding to a 9/11 call. He was trying to save the lives of a Black Woman.

He would never have wanted to fire his weapon.

We cannot fight hate with hate.
There are countless instances of racist police around the World using force they shouldn't have, but it is crucial that we do not surrender sanity to reactionism.
I get that a lot of people ask why he didn't use his taser.

Below is the "instant incapacition" rate from taser use.

As you see in the images, the girl is in the process of stabbing the victim, the victim deserves better than a 67% chance of survival.
The general determination for use of firearms is "the immediate threat of death or serious injury".

That threshold has clearly been passed.

Tasers miss, don't connect to skin, or just don't work. If that was your daughter getting stabbed, would you risk a taser?
...and to the "why not shoot them in a leg" people.

Firing a gun at a moving target is difficult, especially with adrenaline and fear running through your veins.

That's why Police always aim for the centre body of mass, right into the torso...
...because that gives you the best chance of actually hitting them.

Remember, this is life of death. You do not have time to close one eye and try and aim for a knee cap.
So much this...
