Misinformation and confusion is spreading after the news of MyArt’s hanbok auction cancellation. Here's clarification on the matter.
After deeply investigating, we’ve made this thread hoping to clarify the situation based on facts solely.

News of the auction spread for weeks just fine until an article by The Korea Times titled “BTS member Jimin's 'unwashed' costume to go on auction” caused outrage.
The headline was an editorial choice from the outlet, not what the stylist or auction holder meant to be emphasized.

For months, stylist Kim Rieul, was vocal of the hanbok he designed and kept intact since its return to his studio.
With over 300 idol costumes designed, he has never charged agencies, he only charges for fabrics when a specific design is required.
He always loans them for free.

Kim has never sold his designs because he sees it as an honor and designing for others feels like a good deed to him.
HYBE had kindly offered to pay for the hanboks he designed for the group but Kim refused saying “I can't charge to BTS only. Please use them and return it.”

At being contacted by MyArt Auction to submit the hanbok, Kim Rieul initially hesitated but considering that MyArt Auction specializes in representing the beauty of Korean culture and art pieces worldwide, he agreed.
It would’ve been his first time selling an idol costume.

The beauty of a traditional hanbok fusing with modern art had been the focal point of the submission and it was to honour Jimin’s global success as an artist.
BTS have submitted personal items and costumes for auction. The first ever authorized items by BTS were the 7 microphones used in the Love Yourself tours.
Next were their "Dynamite" T-shirts, hats, sneakers, pants and shirts bought by Japanese business men and art collectors.

Many other celebrities have submitted their “unwashed” personal pieces for increased value and authenticity.
Examples include:
Harry Styles’ unwashed Burberry shirt
Michael Jordan's Nike Air Jordan worn in 1985
Sylvester Stallone’s "Rocky" sweatshirt
Pelé World Cup shirt & more.

Being uncomfortable with celebrities auctioning their worn outfits to art collectors isn’t a problem but reading and spreading misinformation is. The stylist has been harassed, cursed and slandered massively for days over this.

MyArt Auction has released a statement saying that the bidding of Jimin’s hanbok will not take place anymore.
The auction itself isn't canceled, the other artworks submitted will be auctioned as planned.

Addition to the thread:
Many are pointing out that the stylist DID mention that the hanbok was kept unwashed. It is true. That happened in February before the auction even existed, on a VideoMug Interview on YouTube. It was not mentioned after the auction by the stylist.
