Thread about the attack on the mosque in Albania. (written by an actual Albanian) - part 2 (because people really don’t know when to stop talking).
I was hoping that the first thread would be enough for people to understand something about Albania, but unfortunately, that was not the case, so I am making part 2, to make people understand the situation even better (hopefully). Let's go.
First of all, I am saying this again, Albania is a Muslim majority country with a centuries-long history of religious tolerance between all our religions. Several attempts were made by imperialist, colonialist powers to create a divide between Albanians based on religious beliefs
however, they NEVER succeeded. Albanians have an incredible bond with each other and our belief is that we are all one, no matter our religious beliefs.
People on Twitter (at least when it comes to this particular issue) love to act like they know everything about Albania. I will comment on a post to say ‘stop spreading misinformation, it’s not Islamophobia, Albania isn’t the west, etc,’, and people will just ignore...
everything, so I’m going to just say it as simply as possible. Please understand that in Albania, we don’t have systemic discrimination against any religious beliefs and our media is not biased towards any religion (and the media is not biased towards Muslims, because the...
majority of the country is Muslim). Please understand that Albania is not the US or a western country, okay? Does everybody understand? Good.

So yesterday a lot of Albanians got hate for apparently ‘defending’ the assailant (which no one was doing, and no one is doing).
We are simply trying to make people understand that the motive behind the crime. So for all the non-Albanians out there, the local media, as well as the police and everybody else involved has said the following (and I am translating directly)... - '
So far there is no indication of a terrorist act, however, investigations are expected to extend further. This means that along the way there may also be a change in the offense. Family members have stated that the assailant mental health problems and that he has recently...
become aggressive, because he refused to take the medication given to him by the psychiatrist. At this point, the sources add that the investigation will also include Rudolf's medical records. The assailant has also been known to be violent with family members...
and in March 2021, he stabbed his friend near a bus terminal at the turn of Kamëza (a town near the capital city, Tirana). On the day of the crime, the assailant also stabbed a pizzeria owner as well as another person, besides the people in the mosque’.
Okay….is it clear now? This is why Albanians are telling people to call down and to stop spreading misinformation on Twitter? Do you get it now? Hopefully so?

Another thing that is astounding to me, and is honestly so disrespectful to, first and foremost the victims of..
this crime, but also to Albanians in general and to Albania, is the way that ‘woke’ people will use this tragic event to spin their narratives.

I have seen people literally commenting ‘ohh, so you guys don’t want it to be a hate crime’……
No, no we don’t want it to be a hate crime…I don’t understand why that’s so difficult to understand. Albanians don’t want to see people in Albania hurting other people based on religion, we want to live in religious harmony as we have done for centuries.
We don’t want Twitter to spin a narrative that Albania is not religiously tolerant, because we have enough political and economic trouble in Albania, but religious trouble is something that we don’t have (and we are extremely proud of the fact that we ALL live in harmony).
I also want to make it clear that I am in no way saying that people who were posting about this were ill-intentioned, or that they wanted to spread misinformation. I think most people making threads about it wanted to help, but when the people it affects and the country...
it affects (in this case Albanians and Albania) tell you to stop because you are spreading misinformation and lies, then stop. It's as simple as that.
Stop spreading lies about Albania and Albanians. Stop. I get that it’s just a Twitter post for some of you, but you guys don’t have to deal with the consequences of your lies and misinformation, Albanians have to deal with them.
So just stop. If you really want to raise awareness about the situation and help people, then listen to Albanian voices and Muslim Albanian voices. Listen to us when we tell you to stop.
Stop with the performative activism, because spreading misinformation and not listening to the people who actually know what’s happening doesn’t help anyone.
And I know that it may seem like I am just repeating my other thread, but I think it’s important for everybody to understand what I am saying because Twitter is just chatting shit about Albania left and right without the slightest amount of knowledge.
Hope this thread helps people to understand the situation even better.

To all the Muslim Albanians and all Muslims, happy Ramadan, I wish you the very best.
