An object for #earthday #earthday2021 A lump of black bitumen reflecting the blue sky, found in the Thames. Bitumen is a by-product of crude oil processing & is a key ingredient in road surfaces. This lump has been sitting outside & is changing shape even in this cool Spring 1/3
weather, when sun hits it. When it’s hot bitumen melts so it’s not a great material for a time of #globalheating. 72% of global transport emissions are from road vehicles (yet much of the population barely travels) and there are projected to be 2 billion cars by 2030. 2/2
What can we do to reverse from this growth in roads made from bitumen, replacing & damaging green space, with vehicles powered (still too much) by fossil fuels, causing pollution that harms & kills too many in the world? #EcoLensOnThings 3/3
