‘Fast food might connote easy accessibility or overindulgence in the West, but McDonald’s presented a different kind of comfort for my family and me. The cost of a burger was hardly a trivial thing for us at the time.’ https://twitter.com/mrbenjaminlaw/status/1385052506225446915
When I got married way too young (my first marriage) I was still at uni as an undergrad & my new husband was finishing his post-grad diploma. For my 22nd birthday, we went to McDonald’s as a treat. We’d been subsisting on instant noodles & congee for a year. I had a Filet O Fish.
I still really love this burger & I get it now every time we have a road trip, as a treat. It brings back lots of nice memories, like when I was a kid & McDonald’s was also a luxury. My parents still go on McDonald’s breakfast dates as on special occasions. It’s very cute.
My parents love frozen fish fingers to this day, bc that was their early dating treat. Time to take them out for fish & chips soon 💗
