Random thought on #gamedev hiring: I actually think a well written cover letter is quite important. I feel like there is a lot of attention spent how to write a good resume and not enough on how to write a good cover letter
The cover letter is the first impression of you as a person, not of your work. And we all know how important first impressions are. Ultimately you are not gonna be evaluated as “a vessel that creates the work” but as a person joining a team of other people creating together
I don’t think the bar is high, but it’s simply polite to have a cover letter read like you have spent at least 15m thinking about the job you’re applying for and/or the company you wish to join, and edit so it doesn’t sound like it’s the same form letter you sent to everyone
