My son began his school sports career this year. He was part of three teams and cut from one. His role on all his teams was in a reserve roll. He was part of a team. He learned valuable lessons. He worked hard. He was held accountable. He was happy.
This is why sports are great. Sports don’t always give you playing time, but it gives everyone an opportunity to be a good teammate, be accountable, work hard, build friendships and learn from mistakes. You don’t have to be the star to benefit from athletics.
Parents should focus on these lessons instead of playing time. Don’t destroy your child’s happiness with their team by focusing on what’s important to you, not them.
