I’m actually really tired of people asking what various identities (race, sexuality and gender expression, disabilities, etc.) have to do with STEM. 1/x
Here’s the thing. My identities influence my place in the world, which influences my motivations, which influences the work I do. I am a chemist who is Black, a woman, and queer and ALL of those things play a part in my science. 2/x
It’s not about “knowing who I’m sleeping with”. It’s about recognizing how I view the world and science is different and THAT shapes my science.

Stop trying to silence people for being open and vocal about their identities. 3/x
ON TOP OF THE FACT that representation and finding community are also important.

So just stop it. Stop trying to erase my identities just because I’m a chemist. I’m a chemist because of them.
