In the moments surrounding the guilty verdict of Derek Chauvin, another Black life was ended far too soon right here in our city. The system was finally held accountable for the murder of George Floyd, but we are left with dismay, grief, and fear.

There needs to be other ways of deescalating a situation than shooting and killing a child. A young girl that had so much life left to live. A child that deserved so much better. When will it be safe for our children of color to live without fear?

Another family has been left to mourn their daughter, sister, niece, and friend. There has to be change.
