DnD creature that is a shark-like humanoid and constantly wandering/moving in the same way that sharks always do. Think wraith meets shark. Usually in packs and consistently hungry because they are constantly in motion. Low intelligence creatures that are more primal.
I'd say their method of reproduction is consumption that then is almost like a cloning process where they would release eggs in a body of water and then the eggs with hatch into essentially clones of the original creature.
If they stop moving it's not an instant death but it's more like an explosion that is charging up. Probably a minute or so is the longest they can not move, maybe longer but that's all speculation.
I like the idea I'm just being a cursed creature created by some figure wanted to put monstrosities and abominations into the world and inflict some sort of magical evolution to fight against them. A wizard of ruin, so to speak.
As time goes on I would also say that they get larger and larger because of how much they are consuming and if they are constantly moving they're growing in muscle mass. You can have a few different variations of them honestly. Get them in a pack and they function wildly.
There could also be variable versions of them depending on where the eggs were lame. If they were laid in a swamp like area versus in a ocean like biome. Take one monster make a minor tweak, switch the template around and boom you have variety.
With this whole mindset I think that they could have a high mind but it wouldn't be necessary. High mind could just be an interesting aspect to another version of it. It kind of reminds me of vampires in a weird way because there is the progenitor.
And after so much time maybe it's possible that the progenitor themself were able to stop their movement. Something changed or something adapted or some sort of magic influence their body so that they could stop. They gained a helm of intellect something like that.
Anyways this is a weird idea that I just had as I was eating a Reese's cup after having kind of a weird mental stress hour but I'm in a better place now and something creative.
P.s. I call it Children Of Gluttony. You see a pack of them and you see a whole bunch of children of gluttony. Solo one is a child of gluttony. First one, the strongest one is the first child of gluttony, also known as a pillar of ruin. Bringing it back to the wizard.
Go make weird things and be creative
