Why are covid numbers surging despite rising vaccinations?

Pandemic fatigue, new variants, and false sense of security. Let's tackle each one, shall we?

The pandemic is not over.
THE PANDEMIC IS NOT OVER.

Just because you miss going to the bar does not make it safe. 1/?
People have stopped washing their hands as regularly, ignoring social distancing, and generally returning to normal life.

It is still not safe to eat in a restaurant. Order takeout and tip 20%.
We are tired of regulations and want to get back to how life was before. 2/?
New variants.

Because we've allowed the virus to ramp back up, it's mutating. New forms infect people faster, younger, and harder.

And are spreading like wildfire because we've decided international travel is just... ok again? 3/?
Lastly, you are not fully immune to this virus even if you are fully vaccinated.

People can, and have, been infected after vaccination. You still need to wear a mask, don't trust strangers who tell you they're vaccinated, and be smart. 4/5
Bottom line: We are almost there.

I know it sucks that you've missed more than a year of parties, the weddings, and family.

But 10 years from now you're not going to remember your shitty birthday party, but you will still remember the loss of a family member or dear friend.
