SUNDAY TIMES BESTSELLER: the @0neMoreChapter_ way...
Yesterday it was confirmed that @BarnabyWalter’s #TheDinnerGuest officially hit #8 on the Sunday Times bestseller list.
I spent the day loudly squeaking excitedly like a guinea pig in a swimming pool of lettuce

We’ve had some incredible successes @0neMoreChapter_ around the world but you can’t deny the weight given to the Sunday Times list in this industry. This is a huge deal to me. To the team. It’s something we weren’t really supposed to get- as a digital first list,
& as a small division of 5 core members (currently 3!) - though this isn’t to discount the support we’ve had from our wider HC family, which I’ll get on to in a mo - but mainly the digital thing...
How did this happen?
How did this happen?
We started working with the brilliant @BarnabyWalter & @JoannaSwainson last year when @morganicbooks came to me raving about Barnaby’s new submission comparing it to one of her favourite authors Donna Tartt but with all the hallmarks of a classic crime. I wish I had her original
Vision doc (how she would publish/who the reader is/what the pitch was) because she nailed it —& Barnaby thought so too. Writer tip: if you receive an offer don’t be afraid to ask an editor what their vision for your book is so you can see if it aligns with your own. Being a
Team is so important.
We knew we wanted this to sit in the crime& thriller market but also be bold& confident &highlight the Donna Tartt uniqueness. & our genius designer @lbennettt got it exactly. This cover.
you can’t underestimate it.

From the cover, marketing queens @melanieRprice & recently departed @claire_fenby (she’s not dead, just gone to Boldwood!
) read &saw how incredible the book was, putting together a campaign that focused on us sharing how much we loved the book through essentially

Creating a huge book club so they could chat about it with all our amazing OMC bloggers, bookstagrammars, readers. Then our incredibly supportive HC family - our best in the business sales team Sarah &Izzy who tirelessly championed the book to retailers, Laura, our digital sales
champion & Emma our pricing analyst - it is SO hard to get a book in the Kindle top 100 if it isn’t in KU/Prime Reads, a big brand or in a Kindle promotion & TDG has done just that -since pub day! The lovely people @HarperFiction gave us support & advice too...
The #audiobook is publishing tomorrow, with @fionnuala_b & @charbrownbooks pulling out all the stops to publish earlier than the original May date, alongside our production &inventory teams @beamishc @CharlotteEDolan who helped us achieve a new pub date when Waterstones said
They wanted to choose the book for April Thriller of the Month. *A huge huge thanks to the incredible booksellers @Waterstones across the UK for the unbelievable support &, of course, window displays like this beauty! Shout out to @winchcognito for her fab help too!
So where am I going with this? I don’t mean to just brag...too often I find Twitter anxiety-inducing with all the good news, celebrations, amazing deals, bestsellers...I feel as if I’m not doing enough to achieve the same or I’m not good enough..& I don’t want this thread to
Make others feel the same. But this is @0neMoreChapter_ ‘s first Sunday Times bestseller. I want to shout about the opportunities digital imprints can offer, that we’re not, as sometimes perceived, less than traditional lists. I want to celebrate Barnaby & Bethan & this excellent
Book because they are lovely & talented & so deserve this!
But also to remind those who are feeling the exhaustion of such a challenging industry, that I have worked in publishing for 10 years &this is the first book I’ve directly been involved with that has hit the Sunday
But also to remind those who are feeling the exhaustion of such a challenging industry, that I have worked in publishing for 10 years &this is the first book I’ve directly been involved with that has hit the Sunday
Times bestseller list. It’s not easy, it’s hard work, it’s unpredictable...but also... it’s a little bit of publishing magic...
I wish more than anything I could help all my authors achieve such a milestone &that’s what I will always work for.
