Yes. But liberal & left are different things. As a LIBERAL leftist, I will agree with liberal rightists on matters of liberalism but as a liberal LEFTIST, I will agree with illiberal leftists on leftwing policies around taxes, healthcare, welfare, housing etc. 1/2 https://twitter.com/TruthIsUrgent/status/1384968931702628355
Here on the left, I have to deal with a large proportion on my people being illiberal but we do largely agree on economic issues. I couldn't go right coz then I'd have to deal with a large proportion of my people being illiberal AND disagreeing with them on economic issues. 2/3
Therefore, my only option is to stay on the left politically and try to fix the illiberal faction because if I went right, I'd have to fix the illiberal faction AND change the entire side economic views to leftwing ones which isn't going to happen. This is about politics, obv.
On a cultural zeitgeist level, rather than a political policy level, my people are liberal humanists and they might be leftwing or rightwing. I'm operating for the most part on a cultural zeitgeist level & so both Areo & Counterweight are non-partisan.
A liberal rightwinger recently said to me "once we’ve got the illiberals read out of meeting & on their heels, we can go back to arguing with one another about taxes & guns & whatnot. In the meantime, on some very important dimensions we have more that unites us than divides us."
I agree, but on another dimension, the political one, my main aim is to fix the left so it stops spreading illiberalism primarily, but also so it stops sabotaging itself & alienating the working class and can be electable again & enact leftwing economic policies.
