okay so i’ve hit 100 followers and i’ve gotten into MF DOOM (RIP DOOM) recently, so here are my first thoughts on his projects i’ve listened to so far :) (keep in mind this is just his main stuff, dude has a LOT of projects) ((rt’s and likes appreciated LOL))
Operation: Doomsday

the villain himself’s introduction to the world!! even this early on, DOOM still creates enticing narratives with his lyrics. the 90’s beats give this album a unique feel in his discog. overall v fun album, def a must listen

Favs: Greenbacks, ?, Red & Gold
Take Me To Your Leader

TMTYL’S vibe, production is (altho a bit repetitive) shiny and immaculate. TMTYL’s woozy, beautiful and cinematic. i was very surprised by it. DOOM’s very absent on the mic, which’s the only issue with this GREAT album

Favs: Lockjaw, I Wonder, Anti-matter
Vaudelle Villain

eerie, haunting yet jazzy music paired w/ smooth, slick beats meeting DOOM’S menacing lyricism makes VV the true birth of the villain we know today. the immersive narrative helps make VV one of DOOM’S best albums

Favs: VV, Never Dead, Change The Beat
Madvillainy

MV creates its own unique, twisted world for the listener to delve into. top tier, tongue-tying wordplay meet abstract beats; MV is filled to the brim with beautiful details that give this album a truly special listening experience

Favs: Figaro, Do Not Fire! Curls
MM... FOOD

MY ABSOLUTE FAV DOOM PROJECT. wonky, fun beats that carry a tang of bittersweetness compliment DOOM’S excellent flow, which is at his peak here imo. the food analogies used help make FOOD zany, beautiful, and vibrant

Favs: Potholderz, Deep Fried Frenz, Kon Queso
The Mouse & The Mask

the vibe here SHOULD fun and cartoony, esp since the concept is revolved around adult swim shows, but TM&TM is a lil hit or miss. the sound is super cool, and def works some tracks, but can feel hollow w/ others

Favs: Old School Rules, Crosshairs, Benzi Box
BORN LIKE THIS

this is def DOOM’S most villainous album, filled w/ evil, menacing beats. there’s def some standout tracks, but BLT is just... fine. maybe it’s the awful BATTY BOYZ track that throws me off, but BLT just feels lackluster.

Favs: GAZZILION EAR, STILL DOPE, ANGLEZ
Keys To The Kuffs

the hazy, depressive mood here is rly special. some of these tracks really bring out the best of this. KTTK is often viewed as DOOM’S worst; i disagree. despite some misses, KTTK is a very underrated project that i love!!

Favs: Guv’nor, Winter Blues, VS, Pt. 2
NehruvianDOOM

this was just... passable. the lush, dreamy, sweet production is astounding, but maybe it’s TOO dreamy; sleepy, almost. nothing rly stands out here, but it isn’t terrible. DOOM is just okay, but for being 15, Bishop is STELLAR

Favs: Om, Mean The Most, Great Things
Czarface Meets Metal Face

tho muddy at times, broody yet groovy beats carry CMMF. this is a very angsty, high energy project that ain’t half bad. DOOM left a lot to be desired here tho. czarface members did great tho! overall solid

Favs: Bomb Thrown, Phantoms, Astral Traveling
EXTRA: Abstract Orchestra’s “Madvillain”

just jazz covers of mostly MV songs, but i was VERY surprised by how enjoyable this was. DOOM’S music is already its own beast entirely, and these jazzed up versions of his songs were rly cool. def listen!!

Favs: FIGARO, MADMIX 2, AIR
rankings+ratings
overall, DOOM has one of the most unique discographies i’ve ever listened to. i def recommend at least trying to get into him if you haven’t heard him before. RIP to the legend.
