1. Y’all say:
“Well, they should have COMPLIED.”

So then I show a video of someone NOT complying and not being shot.

“Nope. That’s different.”

Y’all say:
“Well, she had a KNIFE.”
So then I show video of someone with an axe who didn’t get shot.

“Nope. That’s different.”
2. Y’all say:
“Well, it’s a dangerous job and they didn’t have any other options.”

So then I weep a little because that right there is the problem and why we can’t get out of this...some of you condone this because you place higher value on the lives of authority than I do.
You ain’t gotta tell me about hard decisions in the heat of the moment. I understand this and have had to make said decisions.

Ask yourself why “I feared for my life” is exclusively an excuse for the ones entrusted to protect and serve.
3. Do Black people not get to fear for our lives? We have reason to...it’s not like the killings have stopped.
4. Lastly, I think the problem for me is that there is an ingrained sense that law enforcement is ALLOWED to use deadly force. Actually, in many cases—it’s legal.

As I’ve mentioned, just because something is legal...doesn’t make that something right.
5. There are disparate mentalities about law enforcement and authority. Our community—The Black Community—has been brutalized and KILLED disproportionately by those who are supposed to protect and serve.

That shouldn’t happen to anyone.
6. You tell us that it’s just “bad apples”. But then it happens, again...and again...and again...all our of lives.

It takes a video, 4 weeks of trial, and bated breath for accountability.
7. Given all of that, you STILL twist and spin and justify to preserve the notion that there aren’t other ways of dealing with these situations. You have the privilege of looking at them individualistically.

We look at them existentially.
8. I do NOT hate all law enforcement.

I do hate that I have to qualify that statement with ALL.

Because in a just society that is truly fair and just, we would hold ALL those entrusted to serve to a high standard and use accountability to uphold and maintain those standards.
9. Stop killing us and maybe we will be more trusting.
