ffxiv likes its villains, murderers, traditionalists, mistake-makers more than it likes its protagonist. at some point you have to step back and look at the pattern.

one thing we don't talk about with ffxiv a lot is that nothing ever gets more than half-finished, and while some of that can be pinned to technical limitations in not greatly changing the world, i think it's somewhat intentional

this game never stands for anything.

there are still castra in eorzea and that's just fine. ala mhigo just got left in the dust. we left norvrandt, especially kholusia, before enacting any real change. the warrior of light shows up to fight primals and then leaves and no that's not a meta commentary on mmo players
