Prince has influenced every aspect of music.

But his career affected EVERY area of pop culture - from film, to fashion, to TV; and more.

I decided to highlight a handful of Prince references to showcase the scope of his impact for today's #Princerversaries thread.

Enjoy. 💜
From the TV show ‘New Girl’, to game shows, reality shows, talk shows, and more; there are COUNTLESS Prince references in the past 40 years of pop culture content. I’ll probably post around 30 random (and fairly recent) clips today. | #Princerversaries
'Jeopardy' loves Prince.

This Final Jeopardy question was asked in January.
'Jeopardy' has even showed 'Under The Cherry Moon' love...
In 2018, 'Jeopardy' even aired a Prince-related episode.

While the whole board included categories with Prince-esque names; there was only one category that included Prince-related clues.
Unfortunately, no one buzzed in on that Paisley Park clue; but thankfully another player knew about Paisley in a clue that appeared on a later game.
And in 2020, "Kiss" lyrics were used.
Wendy Williams was gifted a chair from Prince that she has used from time-to-time on her talk show.

She also periodically references the man’s iconic legacy too.
And Wendy's guests have mentioned Prince as well.

From Paula Abdul...
To Carmen Electra...
To Morris Day...
Lots of talk shows have referenced P, but it was no surprise that Tamron Hall mentioned him on hers; considering they were also friends.
Outside of his own appearances on talk shows and chat shows, Prince did appear on that episode of 'New Girl' and also on an episode of 'Muppets Tonight'.
And to continue with the Prince + children's entertainment vibe; Warner Bros. 'Animaniacs' threw in a cheeky Prince joke for the adults in one of their episodes as well.
And sticking with the animation vibe, Prince was also given the cartoon treatment for Morris Day’s ‘Tales From The Tour Bus’ episode back in 2018.
Live-action sitcoms have referenced Prince as well. ‘Blackish’ even dedicated a whole episode to him. Jenifer Lewis stole the show with this line.
‘Splitting Up Together’ had this comical Prince-related exchange between Oliver Hudson and Jenna Fischer too.
And unscripted (reality) shows have gotten on board with Prince shoutouts too.

Bravo’s had a few just these past couple years.

At BravoCon...
On ‘The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City’...
And on ‘The Real Housewives of Atlanta’...
Speaking of Prince-related apparel, ‘Ridiculousness’ castmember Steelo Brim has worn a few different Prince tees...
And their guests have spoken about the man himself.
And here is Rob Dyrdek (correctly) proclaiming that Prince performed the greatest Super Bowl halftime show of all-time...
Guests often were asked about Prince in appearances on other shows.

Here is Justina Machado describing her love for Prince (and other 80s icons)...
Eddie Murphy has spoken about P on The Tonight Show w Jimmy Fallon multiple times.
Prince was even discussed on his most recent appearance while promoting ‘Coming 2 America’ (apropos considering P’s music was used in the film)...
Jimmy loves Prince, so it makes sense that he’d always ask his guests if they had any Prince stories.
And in regards to that ownership of a color, Prince’s name often was dropped on many-red carpet as well. His friend Spike Lee tributed him as part of his ensemble at the 2019 Academy Awards.
Desus and Mero recognized the Prince reference in Spike’s look that year too...
Common also spoke about his love for Prince on the red carpet at the Grammys last year...
Common really does love Prince, and he also cracked me up when he told this hilarious story at a live recording of Questlove Supreme that I attended too.
Prince always seems to get mentioned on stage, even when he’s not the one receiving the award. Here is Cher doing just that...
There are times Prince has been used for comic relief on sketch comedy shows as well, but are you really famous if you haven’t been?

‘Saturday Night Live’ had “The Prince Show” w Fred Armisen and Maya Rudolph...
‘MADtv’ had “The Artist Formerly Known As The Prince of Egypt” with Phil Lamarr.

(Btw, the delivery of the line “shows what you know” always makes me laugh. On point.)
And Jamie Foxx did a few Prince skits for ‘In Living Color’.

Here is one that used the “My Name Is Prince” vid as its inspo:
But sometimes the person who was clowned was the contestant on a game show who didn’t know Prince.

This player didn’t know ANY Prince songs to deliver as clues to Snoop on an episode of ‘The $100,000 Pyramid’ (as Questlove gasp/laughed in the background)...
I mean, how could you not yell out “Purple Rain!” at the VERY least?!?
These contestants on ‘Cash Cab’ didn’t know that the answer was Prince either, but they were being asked in reference to “3121” and I know not *everyone* knows that particular album, so I’ll let it slide moreso than the Pyramid debacle.
Thankfully, this contestant on “The Chase” DID answer correctly when asked about Paisley Park...
Prince has helped contestants shine in competition shows as well, like when Minnesota Chef Justin Sutherland created a “Purple Rain” inspired dish for ‘Top Chef’ Season 16.

(Good news, the judges loved it.)
Bottom line, Prince influenced innumerable people on this Earth; whether their career path was in music, acting, fashion, or food.

He served as a mentor and inspiration to many, and we will always appreciate him for it.

Alicia knows.
Matt Damon knows too.
The fact is, Prince is an icon.

A legend.

A genius.

And a popular reference in pop culture for 40 yrs.

Cherish his catalog.

Respect his artistic output.

And enjoy the gems he left behind.

5 years post-transition, and forever in our hearts. | #Prince4Ever #Princerversaries
