So Way of X #1 came out today and I had a lot of excitement about this series even though the last major teaser we had about it was Kurt saying something to the effect of starting a new religion to fit the Mutants now
Broad Strokes: It was great! I really enjoyed it and it might become my favorite series (hard to say after 1 issue)
The issues I have are minor issues but feel semi-significant in that the issues Kurt struggles with seems to more fitting to somebody who has no theological formation but still believes. Kurt is not just a believer, he& #39;s a religious scholar in many ways...
He& #39;s been to heaven and he has a father is literally a demon in Hell. He& #39;s also well-read and a trained priest so not only is he experienced he& #39;s knowledgeable and the series sorta sidesteps a lot of that
The fact that i can bring up WHY ISN& #39;T KURT CITING JEROME, AUGUSTINE, DOROTHY DAY, GUSTAVO GUITERREZ in a comic book says a lot for how well done it is, if it was trash these issues wouldn& #39;t even enter my mind and not that I want a dissertation but it does seem notable
As I said it& #39;s the first issue so we& #39;ll see what comes of it all, but this is definitely a fun comic that I& #39;ll look forward to following
I definitely will return to this thread as I reread the comic and think on it more but just wanted to put something out there to start.
FWIW the "Creation of a new mutant religion" that raised more than a few eyebrows worry seems to have also been sidestepped and Kurt is still very much Catholic. Which is a relief.
