Writing hot take:

Sf/f cons -need- to start having an Intro to Furry Fiction panel because it’s unacceptable and embarrassing that we allow anti-furry prejudice, rooted in ignorance and the historical exclusion of queerness, to fester in a forward moving community.
I have a lot of practice doing panels, and I could do an Intro to Furry Fiction panel in my sleep. I also know some other very qualified furry writers who could join me.

So, sf/f cons, it’s time to start looking us up.

Trust me, it’d be a good, fun, informative panel. https://twitter.com/ryffnah/status/1384436472460181510
The most ridiculous part is the sf/f community is choosing to have writers miss out on marketing, publishing, and award opportunities in the furry writing scene for absolutely no reason other than ignorant prejudice.

It’s insulting and foolish. Sf/f needs to do better.
THE TRUEST WRITING HOT TAKE:

Furry fiction is good actually.

COME AT ME, TWITTER.
Apparently today is shout about how SF/F ignores Furry day.

Care to join me?

You should all join me.
Like seriously, I would love for people to read my books. It’s what I live for.

AND YET

I would EVEN MORE love for people to just goddamned acknowledge that THE WORD FOR TALKING ANIMAL FICTION

IS FURRY
I mean, geez, just use the goddamned word.

When there’s an animal-like alien in your sci-fi? IT’S FURRY

When the dragon in your fantasy book talks? IT’S FURRY

This isn’t hard. You’re writers.

USE THE WORD THAT MEANS THE THING.
If I shout loud enough, will the sf/f community finally hear me?

I’ve reached out to authors, founded an award, founded a zine, and worked at this for more than a decade.

But hey, maybe throwing a tantrum on twitter will help, so...

FURRY FICTION IS COOL, PASS IT ON
No, seriously, PASS IT ON. Retweet the hell out of this thread until the mainstream sf/f community has no choice but to see us.

There’s a whole ton of furries. And we’ve put out a whole ton of AWESOME FICTION.

There’s no excuse for sf/f treating us like some DIRTY LITTLE SECRET
COME ON, SF/F TWITTER.

YOU CAN SPEND DAYS ARGUING ABOUT WHETHER HORROR CAN BE SET IN SPACE...

START ARGUING ABOUT FURRY FICTION.

Cause at least arguing about it would be acknowledging it.

DRAG ME FOR MY OPINIONS!!!!!!
Inspired by the overwhelming response to this thread, I've written and pitched an article about the furry fiction community to @sfwa. (It's much less shouty, more focused on providing information.)

Wish me luck!
