“The north wasn’t colonised!” Erm. Yeah? Everyone knows that? The NIPs aim might be more in line with the hundreds of years the north has been suffering and neglected by the rich and not actually because anyone things the north has been colonised.

From my house I can see a factory which was closed by Thatcher and caused mass unemployment in my town. Poverty is much higher. The Tories horrific policies have hit us the hardest. If ur southern, stfu on the issue of NIP. It’s not your place. At all.

The fact some Londoner actually made the claim that the north benefitted from colonisation when we have a much higher level of immigration of people from countries colonised by Britain pisses me off. PLUS no we didn’t. The rich did. Not us.

Like, my mums Irish. My family were effected horrifically by the troubles. My family was effected by colonialism. I know the difference between the classist bullshit way Westminster treats the north and colonialism. Lots of people up north do.

Assuming this is anything to do with nationalism and a belief that we are oppressed for being English is offensive and weird. Like it’s saying everyone up north is thick and racist but coating it in progressive language.

Yes soldiers from the north were used to colonise other countries. Since we have a higher level of poverty than the south, and through our history people have been forced to join the army out of poverty... take a wild guess as to what that meant.

Even NOW the poor are recruited to be thrown into war zones. This disproportionately affects the north. Yes we definitely benefitted in some ways, but cities like Liverpool apologise and own up to their racist colonialist past. Cities like Bristol don’t. The difference?

Ones predominantly working class and has a high immigrant population. The other is significantly more middle class and gentrified even among its student population (I went to uni there so this is first hand experience.)

TLDR; if you hate the NIP whatever that’s fine but if you are southern and think you have any right to talk about northern issues back the fuck up. You don’t get the divide, you don’t get the classism, stop.
