I saw a press release for this paper, and thought, whoa, those are some provocative claims. Then I read it. It is hard to describe how bad it is. "Evolution of genetic networks for human creativity" https://doi.org/10.1038/s41380-021-01097-y
The paper almost could be a case study in what happens when you ignore every caution that has been raised during the last 10 years about interpreting GWAS and PRS beyond the study sample.
OK, now I've been spot-checking the 267 genes that this paper claims are in modern humans and not in Neanderthals. Except...they *are* in Neanderthals. Every one of them that I've checked. The Denisova genome too.
So the supplementary table that lists the genes supposedly "absent in Neandertals" indicates their coverage in the Vindija and Chagyrskaya data. And lists these as identical to two decimal points. *FOR EVERY GENE*.
Table S6. I have no words.
