[THREAD] Why LEC and ERL / EU Masters teams are closer than you think.
I could share rumours about roster changes or even scrims about ERL teams beating LEC teams, but this thread is about a theoretical take on why I think ERL and LEC teams are closer than you think.
First, what I& #39;d like to say is something that is true for both pro play or for our soloQs: The better you are, the harder it is to get better at the game. Because we learn easier things first and because the better you or pros are, the less things there are to learn.
Let& #39;s imagine 24 (or more) teams made out of the best european players. The best eu players are in the first team and the worst ones (out of those) are in the last one.
We rank the teams in order of the strength of their players, the skill decreases gradually with the color, but the lower you get, the closer teams will be. So team 1 isn& #39;t the first place team but the team with the best roster.
Now it just so happens that the LEC is 10 teams, so we& #39;ll assume that they& #39;re made of the 50 best EU players. In reality this isn& #39;t completely true because of contracts, imperfect scouting & because there& #39;s other criteria than individual strength.
This would be rosters strength ranked from top to bottom in pre-season if signings were perfect
Because teamplay matters & it& #39;s not all about individuals. Because players can improve or underperform during a split, because teams can have a lot of internal problems or a lack of synergy, because of meta changes, because unexpected things will happen...
But especially because the 10th and 11th best possible European rosters are already super close in terms of level; there& #39;s a very high probability that some ERL teams will be even or better than some LEC teams.
There are so many ERL leagues and teams, some ERL teams will have all of those variables in their favor. And some LEC teams won& #39;t work well together.
When we take into consideration all those things that can determine whether a team will perform well or not. Because of this variation, it& #39;s likely that a ranking of EU teams in strength could look like this.
But my argument isn& #39;t perfect: playing in the LEC actually makes you stronger, because you need better competition to improve. But I am convinced that it is not enough to outweigh the natural variation teams can have in strength. also LEC & ERL teams can scrim each other
This explanation is about why some ERL teams are very close to some LEC teams, but it works for players themselves too and why bottom tier LEC players and top tier ERL players are basically almost in the same tier.
