Let’s talk about the cost of weddings...

A large event of any kind costs money, per head. More people more food, drinks, furniture, venue, hire items, staff etc.

There has always been an option to have small/low key weddings. There are services/products at all levels.

There are providers for all budgets. However in my experience most do undercharge when you look at their skills, hours of work, overheads etc.

But yes, if you want a top level experience, then it will cost more. Like anything else.

Somehow the entire wedding industry continues to be labelled as “frivolous” and “unnecessary”.

Which is odd. Other industries don’t get the same attacks.

Cars, houses, holidays, clothing, beauty, hospitality.

Why weddings?

Why shouldn’t people choose to have as many friends and family as they want?

Why shouldn’t people follow their own traditions and desires for a milestone moment in life?

Why is it of anyone else’s business?

Your wedding, your money, your choice.

Why would anyone wish to bring down or undermine a huge industry that generates nearly £15bn a year to the UK economy?

You know, money that pays for the things we quite like having... the NHS and education for a start.

Not to mention the sectors it feeds into.

We bring more £ to retail, hospitality, beauty, travel & tourism.

We generate £ and drive employment in every constituency of the U.K. Urban and rural.

In fact we employ 400k + people every year. All ages, all cultures, all regions.

80% of businesses are owned by women. Who work flexibly and create more jobs. Who are highly skilled creative entrepreneurs and artists. Many juggling childcare too.

Why not attack other “unnecessary” extravagant live events?

Why is it always weddings?

7/9
Is it *because* we are female led that we attract this continual attack on our trade?

Is it because the notion of a “bridezilla” 🤢 is still part of the narrative?

Is it just because people are jealous? Spiteful? Judgmental?

Whatever it is, it has to stop.

For religious or political leaders to cast an opinion on how others choose to celebrate the very things we have missed & hold dear in life - love, family, friends, fun, music, food, experiences, religion, culture - is distasteful at best.
