Lyrics Notes #1

Interpreting some of my favourite lines from Agust D, a thread
1. 140503 at dawn

What I love about this song is that you can literally hear him get up, yawn and stretch, and just.. start recording. He ends the song with these lines, which completely cover the detachment he felt in his trainee days - he wants to be supported but he also +
+ fears it because it makes him vulnerable. With the last two lines opposing in meanings, he explains that while on the outside he wanted to seem strong he was just as vulnerable to admit that he doesn't want to be abandoned, even if his actions say something different.
2. So Far Away

There are two parts in this song that I hold very close to me.. first is this one simply for how he changes the meaning of the same sentence with the letters used in the lines..to ask the whole world if he's the one who's slow for this world then spinning the ++
+ question around to himself, showing that he always, ALWAYS has an introspective mindset when it comes to discovering his place in the world, which he further expands in D-2 as well.
The second part is this. Throughout the whole song he tells us how he didn't have the common +
+ dream and how dreams didn't really help his mental state be better at all, but when he sings in the chorus he still hopes that we dream throughout our life, dream for a prosperous end to our journey no matter how tough it is. This shows that Yoongi accepts that while +
+ dreaming might not have been in favour in his life earlier, he knows how powerful dreams can be, he knows what they can do to help people grow. Despite his uncommon dream, he never disencourages dreaming. Rather, he beautifully wishes that we keep dreaming.
3. Moonlight

When you put someone on a pedestal, your expectations of them, and their confidence in themselves - both suffer. Yoongi calls the feelin of being called immortal as overwhelming because he accepts the universal truth that nothing truly lasts forever. +
+ the extensive praise he gets, with people calling him the best of all time seems like a bit of pressure sometimes because it's a very high standard to reach. While he has reached it once, reaching it again and again is just as hard and grueling. It distances him from his +
+ passion and makes the work he likes harder for him to do. This is why he calls the adjectives a bit too much because they just amplify the expectations people have from him, even if these expectations are with good intentions. As he expresses in the previous verse,
His performance isn't always constant, so sometimes when people use those adjectives to describe him and immortalise his work, it starts to feel a bit undeserved despite how hard he's worked, as he expressed in the first 2 verses of the song.
4. People

Yoongi explores how he perceives human beings around him, what they seem like to him. These lines show one of the biggest differences that fame can bring to divide people.

1. Your ordinary is my special - as he's famous, ordinary things like going out, ++
+ making friends, being social isn't very easy for him. It becomes special.

2. Your special is my ordinary - what non-celebs consider special - the star treatment, the money - it's all now ordinary to Yoongi.

3. My ordinary is your special - here the meaning changes - his +
+ humility, his behaviour that you might not see in other celebs might be ordinary to him, but it's special for us all.

4. My special is your ordinary - as the meaning changes, his art will forever differentiate him from the world, make him special. However, celeb culture is +
+ always making way for the new, so his special work often starts to seem ordinary to people who want to stan "non mainstream but trendy" things, despite how special Yoongi's work might be to him.
Since this is my first thread like this, I have limited it to 4 songs. These are just my interpretations, hope you like them.
