Antiwoke discourse will be held partly to blame for the continuance of "death by cop" moving forward.

There is a pernicious dynamic at play where social justice issues get collapsed into "wokism" or "CRT" with the purpose of blocking social change.

Let me explain...

(1/10)
First, there is no such thing as "wokism."

But there are social justice issues that folk care about.

And there are evidence-based social science theories that can be applied to those issues.

(2/10)
Example:

The Social Justice Issue

Black and Hispanic students express a desire to see more of themselves in classes. Making the course more relevant will increase the meaning of education in their lives and increase academic performance.

(3/10)
The Theory Applied

One way to do this is through culturally relevant pedagogy. This means incorporating materials and assignments into a class that speak to the backgrounds of students of color.

(4/10)
The problem with antiwoke discourse is that the core issues is not seen as important, and the theories applied are not understood past a surface level.

Thus, discourse around the problem solving of these issues gets collapsed to "wokism" or "CRT" and this slows change.

(5/10)
Sadly, conversations about police brutality follow this same dynamic.

The core issue is that poor, black, and brown communities are overpoliced with aggressive LEO practices, to the point that those communities are like foreign lands and police are an occupying force.

(6/10)
Folks with no connection to those communities or studied those patterns in detail do not have the fierce urgency of now.

This then leads to a dismissal of the issue as so many anecdotal "lived experiences" (with quotes intentionally used to mock the idea) or the...

(7/10)
...clinging to simplistic data points such as "well, more white people are killed by cops than black people."

So when solutions are proposed, like "defunding the police" the academic work done to flesh these ideas out is ignored (hint: its not just taking money police).

(8/10)
The standard antiwoke response is: "how do you know if those solutions work?"

This is a way of kicking the can down the road when you are comfortable with your life.

ANTIWOKE FOLKS RARELY OFFER ALTERNATIVE SOLUTIONS BECAUSE THEY DONT THINK THERE ARE PROBLEMS.

(9/10)
In this way, the discourse around police brutality becomes a "wokish" or "CRT" idea, and change is slowed or blocked.

Meanwhile, folks continue to be harmed by these injustices. In this way, antiwokes are complicit in these citizen killings.

They should own it.
