Just listened to a @farnamstreet pod with @angeladuckw: Grit and Human Behavior –

Came out of it with so many takeaways! On decision making, passion, and feedback.

Here are some of my main points👇🧵
1/ "Feedback is a gift, but not all of us can unwrap it"

Successful people know that expertise comes about through:

hyperintentionality + concentration + feedback + repetition of that whole cycle
2/ Don't "follow" your passion, develop it.

The word 'following' doesn't translate well. It is about developing passion – which is generative rather than reactive.

Deepening interests and passions give it a completely different dimension as you pursue it.
3/ Do what is play for you and work for others.

Lean into what comes naturally to you, even if it isn't a typical path.
4/ Nurture vs Nature:

There is the role of chance but there is also the role of choosing.

Your environment may not be the best, but how you respond is a choice – from Arthur Ashe who is of only two men of black African ancestry to win a Grand Slam singles title.
My favorite parts:

Feedback is a gift, but not all of us can unwrap it

She references Shakespeare:

"All the world’s a stage, and all the men and women merely players"

If that is the case, then we need to think more clearly and intentionally about what role we are playing.
