Just did a search of tweets by people I follow - anyone who isn& #39;t trans that ever used the word t***ny has been unfollowed. And it was a few of you too
What got me thinking was how normalised transphobia in music culture was until recently. Jai Paul& #39;s page at http://btstu.com"> http://btstu.com currently references the snide reviews of what is literally an all time classic. When I googled what they were from the transphobia kinda leapt out
They& #39;re from https://www.thesinglesjukebox.com/?p=2989 ">https://www.thesinglesjukebox.com/...
Today& #39;s thread is about transphobia, but another day I might come back to @alex_macpherson and the hill he is willing to die on, which is continuing to futilely suggest there is no merit to Jai& #39;s music. I& #39;m glad Alex no longer gets asked to write about music
The @guardian has always loved pushing the boundaries of casual transphobia. People have been given columns off the back of it!
@LukeTurnerEsq being a typically oafish posh dickhead as always
More @pitchfork
That time AG Rojas & @officialSpzd made a horrifically exploitative video and the music press was too dumb to do anything but applaud
The reason why I post these is to show that culture used to situate casual transphobia as a punchline or cheap gag. The community was too marginalised to defend itself. This was some of the transphobic content in & #39;05 which stopped me starting HRT:
This was a music blog which specifically targeted me with transphobic posts. I remember no-one thinking anything of it at the time....
