We need to talk about the way this shooting and the resulting march here is being framed in the (heavily racist) NW Side Polish community https://blockclubchicago.org/2021/04/19/after-polish-immigrant-jakub-kuba-marchewka-killed-in-easter-shooting-hundreds-gather-to-demand-justice/

I saw a few "all lives matter" signs at the march, which for obvious reasons also heavily featured Polish pride regalia, etc. Essentially the tragedy is being used as a dogwhistle for far-right extremists. The Facebook comments are bad. It's all just bad. Ugh

It's not clear to me what the killer's race is? But that's neither here nor there, it's galvanized a lot of people against "crime in Chicago" either way which always brings the racists out

There's a guy walking through the middle of the march with a thin blue line flag, lol

Why are we reporting on this like it's just a vigil for a shooting victim

Oh sweet, just noticed the other sign that says PATRIOT STREET FIGHTERS

Anyway I have big questions about the reporter who wrote the story about this and didn't include...any of this

She either didn't notice it all or chose not to include it for a reason

There's a lot of context here including white nationalism in the Polish community, the history of policing as an accessible career to Polish immigrants, etc

But yeah, this is...not good
