A search of publicly available documents shows WHNC Board member Anthony Scearce has filed a civil suit against The City, WHNC, DONE, 5 WHNC Board members (Steve Randall, Myrl Schreibman, Dan Brin, Joanne Yvanek-Garb & Char Rothstein) & Semee Park

The suit includes the following complaints:

- Discrimination based on race
- Harassment
- Failure to prevent Harassment and Discrimination
- Retaliation
- Civil Rights Violations
- Negligent Retention & Supervision
- Negligent & Intention Emotional Distress
- Assault

The complaint notes that Anthony is the first Black Board member ever elected to the WHNC, and that all 5 of the Board members named in the suit are white

According to the complaint, after Anthony's first unpleasant run-in with Steve Randall, Anthony suggested that there needs to be a more professional atmosphere on the WHNC, Steve disagrees:

"I do not have to be professional, I am not getting paid"

In the complaint, after being accused of being racist by another Board member, Steve decides to send Anthony an incredibly racist email about Aunt Jemima to.... prove he's not racist?

This is so spectacularly deranged it's hard to believe

Steve follows it up with a video of a hanged Black man

This was June 22, 2020, after George Floyd's murder, and when hanged Black men were being found in public spaces across the country

Anthony was alarmed and sent an email to, among others, Dan Brin, Pres of WHNC

Dan Brin, Pres of the WHNC, responds to a follow up call about the email Anthony sent with:

"I'm not going to do anything... Do whatever you think you need to do."

This may look like cowardice, but it's actually even worse

You see, Dan Brin, Steve Randall, and Myrl are officers in a 501c3 called the Valley Community Center Foundation

The reason Dan refuses to take any action against Steve and Myrl, despite their horrible behavior, is to protect the reputation of their non-profit

Then Steve Randall sends the infamous "Hunting Antifa" video

This video is absolutely appalling, especially given the national context at the time it was sent and the previous emails above

Anthony then emails the City Attorney's Office for help since Dan Brin refuses to do anything

He notes Steve has been a Community menace for a long time, and no action has ever been taken against him

Myrl Schreibman then "resigns" Anthony from the Special Events Committee that he Co-Chairs with Steve Randall after Anthony's complaint to the City Attorney's Office

The suit alleges this was done in a discriminatory and retaliatory fashion

Next, Anthony is removed from the Government Relations Committee by Joanne Yvanek-Garb with help from Steve Randall, who allegedly called Anthony a "criminal"

Anthony emails another Board member about his removal from 2 Committees immediately after complaining about Steve

Shortly after, Anthony received an email from Semee Park, saying that the investigation into Steve's behavior has concluded & no wrong-doing was found

They never even interviewed Anthony

Again, Steve has been the subject of dozens of complaints & @EmpowerLA protects him

Here's Semee Park at the February General Board meeting, after Steve was denounced by stakeholders during Public Comment, instructing the WHNC to limit PC & that the Board cannot take any action against Steve Randall for his harassment of Neighborhood children

The complaint alleges that Anthony is being subjected to ongoing harassment like Steve continuously complaining about Zoom links for the meetings and Myrl banning him from the Special Events Committee that Myrl had previously "resigned" Anthony from

The suit then goes on to list the causes for action for each complaint list at the beginning of the thread

What we see in this suit is discrimination and harassment based on Anthony's race, the WHNC allowing that behavior to continue unchecked, and complicity from the City

The WHNC, DONE (especially Semee Park), and the City Attorney's Office have known about Steve Randall's abusive behavior for years

Rather than censure and remove him, the WHNC has protected and enabled his behavior with the blessing of the City

It's worth mentioning that Steve, Myrl, Char & Joanne are big supporters of @CD12LA

Steve sits in front of a John Lee plaque during every single meeting

Last year, Myrl wanted to give John an appreciation plaque

I wonder if #StafferB will denounce his toxic supporters

Too many NCs are filled with toxic racists

DONE & the City Attorney's Office are complicit with their behavior & protect & enable the worst NC Board Members in their role as liability shields
